Dimethicone

Fearmongered, actually fine·Strong evidence

A silicone that gives a smooth, soft feel and helps hold water in the skin. Inert and well studied.

The myth vs the evidence

Often accused of "suffocating" skin or causing breakouts. Dimethicone is breathable to water vapor, non-comedogenic in testing, and rinses off normally. The clean-beauty fear is not supported.
